Welcome to the Search Squad: where military training and outdoor education combine to train high school students in security and adventure. Lise de Lys is the Search Squad prodigy, the youngest person to qualify for the Sierra Squad at her boarding school. They take care of all the school's security, and have their eyes set on keeping everyone safe. But despite their responsibility, Lise and her teams must still exist as actual teenagers and deal with all the very real issues of High School. In a post-World War three world, life looks mostly the same; but with fear and horrors lurking on the edge of everyone's minds, it's hard to know what safety really is. And they realize the security they work so hard for is barely a smokescreen for the unrest bubbling. Full of mystery and adventure, Lise and her friends have learned one important thing: you have to be able to rely on each other.

Despite brimming with excitement, Lise's mood is dampened by the addition of a new team member. She's starting to tire of the struggles she has been facing as a girl in a male dominated sport — but her struggles are about to turn dangerous.

Most eleventh graders are focused on school . Lise and the Squad are focused on the rising global strife, a deadly drug spreading like wildfire, natural disasters, and . All while trying to balance high school relationships. But the bubbling thought won't leave Lise: how much of a normal teenage can she be, with the commitment she made.

Christmas break has come and gone, and Lise is starting to notice the whispers of war hiding on the edges of her peripheral. Trying to shake it off, focus as she gets into a relationship and with competition season on the horizon, she is suddenly harshly reminded that when the world is in strife, it is the peaceful moments that can bring about just as much destruction.

The Alpha (Book 5)
Twelfth grade. Lise and the Squad are ready to enjoy their training, and work hard until their final competition season. For Lise, her relationship is stable, she is grabbing hold of the opportunities she never thought she would have, and finds her voice to speak up about the problems in the program she loves so much. Things are good.
But as always, the world has other plans for them.
